The Design Show House at the Winter Cottage: Claudia Dowling Interiors, in cooperation with the Caumsett Foundation, is producing the 2010 Design Show House at the Winter Cottage, located on the picturesque grounds of Caumsett State Historic Park Preserve. Distinguished designers, artisans and landscapers are restoring this Marshall Field Country Estate which opens to the public from September 4th through October 17th. The Design Show House is benefiting the Caumsett Foundation which is working to preserve this integral part of Long Island’s history.
During this six week event, we expect to attract thousands of visitors from the greater metropolitan area. In addition to the Show House there will be a series of special events taking place on the Winter Cottage grounds. Labor Day weekend, Sat – Mon, Sept 4th, 5th, and 6th kicks off with a fabulous multi-media Art Exhibit including works by local artists. A dazzling woman’s Fashion Show is scheduled for Sept. 12th, and Designer Sunday on Oct 3rd is a chance for all to meet the participating designers; find out what inspired them, including designer tips and more.
The Show House at the Winter Cottage is a unique opportunity for these designers and artisans to express their creativity within the restrictions of the Historic Preserve’s rules for preservation. The Winter Cottage was designed by the renowned architect John Russell Pope and constructed in 1923. It was the first major building that would be completed on the Marshall Field Estate. The distinct gardens were attributed to the leading landscape designer of the day, Marian Coffin.
