The Foundation is dedicated to education, low-impact recreation, historic and environmental preservation and conservation of the scenic value, natural heritage and cultural history of the site. Text Box: FOUNDATION ACCOMPLISHMENTS & ONGOING PROJECTS: Raised over $4,000,000 through grants and from benefits, each attracting over 600 guests Planned and in the process of completing historic restoration of dairy barns; completed the restoration of the walled garden Began the process for the restoration of the historic polo barn Compiled vast archives on the Marshall Field family and Gold Coast era, in addition to historical materials covering colonial times to the present; currently digitizing archives Sponsored educational programs on Long Island agriculture for schools and families Text Box: Our Unique Park Caumsett State Historic Park Preserve reaches from Long Island Sound across Lloyd Neck to Lloyd Harbor and occupies approximately 1,500 acres. Located in the Town of Huntington in the Village of Lloyd Harbor, it includes open meadows, pristine beaches, hardwood forests, specimen trees and shrubs, and a fresh water pond in addition to Field’s main house and outbuildings. Caumsett, a Matinecock Indian word meaning place by a sharp rock, is a mixture of habitats that make it a rare and valuable resource. Text Box: Chairperson’s Message: Tom Calabrese My love of Caumsett State Historic Park Preserve led to my involvement in the Caumsett Foundation. Spending time in the park, usually twice a week, I recognized it as a rare treasure on Long Island. I became committed to its preservation and protection, especially in light of encroaching development in our surrounding areas. It is my goal to revitalize the park for increasing numbers of visitors to enjoy while also ensuring that it remains a place of beauty for generations to come. Fortunately, I have the help of a talented and cohesive board, an energetic and dedicated park manager, and supportive and knowledgeable state administrators. I especially want to acknowledge the incredible leadership of our past chairperson, Lynn Gundersen, who has given so much time and love to Caumsett.  She will continue to be a major force in helping to ensure the future preservation of the park. I hope you will read about our many accomplishments on our web-site, especially the over $1 million we raised last year from benefits, memberships and grants. As our partnership with the state strengthens, you will be seeing more improvements in the park. We look forward to working with newly elected officials, including Commissioner Carol Ash, to ensure that this partnership continues to flourish. We also need your support so that the Caumsett Foundation can accomplish the many daunting tasks that lie ahead. Just by visiting the park and taking in its many diverse environments, I know you will share my commitment to this unique gem right in our own backyard.
